Anthony Boutard of Ayers Creek Farm in Gaston, Oregon shared with me how he overcame an issue with harvesting mustard seed:
“The mustard harvest was very different from grains. The plants tended to ball up in the reel and get twisted on the arms. The first pass was a wild mess. I had some extra scraps of twin wall plastic and added them as fixed bats. I also found I needed to run the reel at it highest position. That solved the problem. I also ran the header high to reduce the coarse material without seeds from entering the cylinder.”
